The Kitten Who Started It All: Journey
Every journey has a beginning, and for the Journey Project, it began with one very special kitten.
Journey was rescued from the home of an elderly man in Myrtle Grove, along with several other cats and kittens. He cared about his feline family and wanted nothing more than to see them happy and healthy. But over time, their numbers grew beyond what he could manage. With limited resources and other challenges, he simply wasn’t able to give them all the care they desperately needed.
That’s when Jackie and a group of fellow rescue supporters stepped in. Together, they helped rescue about a dozen cats and kittens from the property. Among them was a tiny orange kitten in especially desperate need of help. Journey had suffered a severe injury to one of his eyes, and it was clear he needed immediate veterinary care.
Jackie took Journey under her wing and stayed by his side through one health setback after another. Ultimately, his damaged eye had to be removed, but Journey never let that slow him down. With proper medical care, patience, and lots of love, the sick little kitten began to heal and blossom.
Today, Journey is happy, healthy, and living his best life with Jackie. But perhaps the sweetest part of his story is the role he now plays for the kittens who come after him. Whenever new fosters arrive scared, unsure, or simply needing comfort, Journey is there to greet them with his loving purr. It’s almost as if he knows exactly what they’ve been through, and wants them to know they’re safe now.
Journey became much more than one kitten who needed saving. He became the inspiration behind Journey Project and a reminder of why this work matters. There will always be another kitten whose journey begins with uncertainty, but with compassion, care, and a helping hand, that journey can have a very different ending.
Journey was the beginning. Now, we hope to be the reason many more journeys have a happy ending.
